Wookjin Lee was born in Republic of Korea in 1981. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the Pusan National University. He then continued his studies in the same department, and in 2012 received his Ph.D under the supervision of Prof. Yongho Park. During his Ph.D, he developed a new simulation strategy for estimating mechanical properties of composite materials based on virtually reproduced 3D microstructures.
Afterwards, he joined the group of Prof. Dr. Christian Leinenbach at Empa, Switzerland as a postdoctoral researcher (2012-2015) in order to further develop his material characterization skills and to expand his research area on the novel functional material system of Fe-Mn-Si based shape memory alloys. He received training in in-depth thermo-mechanical and microstructural characterization as a Marie-Curie Postdoc Fellow. Following these postdoctoral years, he moved back to Korea and served as a principal investigator for the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH) from 2015-2021, while also continuing research on Fe-Mn-Si based shape memory alloys. During these years, his research field has been focusing in laser-based additive manufacturing of advanced Ferrous metals.
He was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the School of Materials Science and Engineering of the Pusan National University in 2021.
